PLANS are well under way for the annual National Federation of Fishmongers British Fish Craft Championships to be held at the Oyster and Seafood Fair at Hays Galleria, Tooley Street, London Bridge from September 5-7.
Last year saw nearly 100,000 people attend the event, which is now fast becoming a landmark show in the fish industry calendar and is supported by many of the best known names within the industry, including FISHupdate.
Seafish has brought forward its National Seafood Week and extended it to National Seafood Fortnight, which this year will be launched at the Oyster and Seafood Fair in September and over the competition weekend.
There are a range of attractions to appeal to fishmongers/processors at every level of competence and the 2007 British Fish Craft Championships saw a record number of competitors attend from all over the British Isles, from as far away as North Scotland, Cornwall and West Wales. There were nearly 200 separate entries and a record number of Judges, and the fierce competition was eventually won by Dave Bennett of M & J Seafood, who became the Young's British Fish Craftsman 2007. He will be retiring from the competition front this
year, so the field is wide open for a new 2008 champion.
Anyone wishing to get involved in this year's competition, or who wishes to receive entry forms as soon as they are published, should contact the NFF secretary Helen Leftwich by email, or ring competition organiser John Sullivan on 01495 792 792.
www.fishupdate.com is published by Special Publications. Special Publications also publish FISHupdate magazine, Fish Farmer, the Fish Industry Yearbook, the Scottish Seafood Processors Federation Diary, the Fish Farmer Handbook and a range of wallplanners.
