New assistant director at shellfish association
Published:  28 April, 2008

THE Shellfish Association of Great Britain (SAGB) has announced the appointment of David Jarrad as assistant director.

In a statement issued today, the SAGB said David has the "difficult task" of replacing Dr Clive Askew, who retired recently following a lifetime of "outstanding service" to the shellfish industry.

David Jarrad has worked in shellfish cultivation for the past 20 years, mainly as managing director of River Exe Shellfish Farms and Abbotsbury Oysters. Throughout this time David has contributed to the work of the SAGB, of which he has been a member since 1989. He was chairman of the Mollusc Committee from 1994 until 1996 and a council member since 1994.

He has represented the SAGB at negotiations on classifications of shellfish waters, depuration systems and toxin management throughout this period.

"His hands on experience in shellfish farm management including production, logistics, business development, marketing, sales and service, give the ideal profile to advise on molluscan shellfish development," the SAGB said.

David Jarrad has participated in the work of the Devon Sea Fisheries Committee, Seafish, the Exe Estuary Management Partnership, Exe Estuary Users Association and has been an independent consultant on shellfish cultivation and management for the past 10 years. He is also well known for his oyster bar at many major sporting events.
