THE West of Scotland Fish Producers' Organisation (WSFPO) has appointed Kevin McDonell as their new Chief Executive, to take over from Robert Stevenson at the end of this month.
Mr Stevenson is moving to a new post at the North East of Scotland Fishermen’s Organisation in Peterhead.
Mr McDonell will be based at the WSFPO office in Mallaig and will have full responsibility for the day-to-day running of WSFPO and will represent the interests of WSFPO members at national and EU level.
A resident of Mallaig, Mr McDonell has worked in the Denholm Fishselling (George Walker & Sons) office at Mallaig for sixteen years, as Fish-salesman, Clerk and latterly as Operations Clerk and is fully aware of the regulatory complexities faced by fishermen.
Looking forward to his new post, Mr McDonell said:-
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to further my career with WSFPO and look forward to continuing the provision of quota management and associated services to WSFPO members. ”
Commenting on the new appointment, WSFPO Chairman Duncan MacIntosh said:-
“The Directors of WSFPO are very pleased to welcome Mr McDonell as the new Chief Executive at WSFPO in the knowledge that he will maintain the effective operational management of the organisation. On behalf of all the Directors of WSFPO, I would like to thank Mr Stevenson for his diligence and dedication which ensured the smooth running of the organisation through-out his time of service and wish him continued success in his new post at NESFO”.
The WSFPO membership comprises mainly vessels targeting nephrops (prawns) in the area between Lochinver and Carradale on the west coast of Scotland.
