Seafood giant on way to Wembley final
Published:  28 March, 2008

YOUNG'S, Britain's leading seafood producer, will be showing off on the pitch at the new Wembley Stadium this weekend - but the company won't be kicking a ball.

That will be done by Grimsby Town Football Club who meet MK Dons in the final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy tournament.

Young's has been sponsoring Grimsby Town (nicknamed The Mariners) for the past few years and is the only seafood company whose logo appears in a football league either in England or Scotland.

At the time of the sponsorship, Young's said it chose Grimsby because, with a local workforce of over 2,000, it is Grimsby's biggest employer and many of its staff are supporters of the team.

Young's say the sponsorship has served both the company, the club and the local fishing community well and the relationship has been good for the whole industry.

Ironically, the seafood link continues with the chairman of Grimsby Town John Fenty, founder and owner of the Five Star Fish Company until he sold the business for over £20million four years ago.

He said: "Having been brought up in Grimsby and been associated with fish and seafood all my life, this partnership between Young's and the club has been of tremendous benefit." All that remained, he added, was to come home with the trophy on Sunday evening.
