EXHIBITORS from the British Isles and around the world are gearing up for the 23rd Fishing show, which takes place in Glasgow next week.

Exhibitors will display the latest products and services for the fishing industry at Fishing 2008, which will have an international flavour with firms from the UK and Ireland joined by companies from the People’s Republic of China, Canada, France, Iceland, South Korea, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain and the USA.

Overseas companies include Chinese line and float maker Weihai Yinqiu Fishing Tackle and Korean line maker Haesung Enterprise, while Electronic Navigation of New Zealand will again be exhibiting its multibeam sonar technology.

Canadian east coast GRP builder Millenium Marine will be exhibiting in Glasgow for the first time, joining regulars Notus Electronics of St John’s, Newfoundland. NET Systems will travel from the US Pacific Northwest to take up its stand at the show.

The Danish Export Association will take a large stand to the show to complement the mix of boatbuilders, electronics, gear and safety companies from around the UK and Europe.

Finning Power Systems will be demonstrating how electronic engines can help reduce fuel consumption and will exhibit an engine from its range of CAT, MaK and Perkins-Sabre products.

Fishing’s popular two-day seminar programme (April 3 and 4) will open with a presentation by Scotland’s Fisheries Minister, Richard Lochhead, about the future of Scottish fishing. The programme also includes a presentation by the NFFO’s Doug Beveridge on the implications for commercial fisheries of offshore renewable energy and another by Bertie Armstrong of the SFF explaining days-at-sea and Scottish conservation credits. Simon Potten of Seafish will discuss fishermen's training and funding.

Fishing 2008 is due to be held at the SECC from Thursday 3 to Saturday 5 April.
