FISH farming technology supplier AKVA Group Chile has signed a 2 million euro contract with Sealand Aquaculture S.A. to build a salmon recirculation hatchery in Chile’s 10th region, it was announced today.
The “UNI Recirculation System” has a capacity of 6 million smolts, produced in six cycles of one million smolts.
AKVA Group says the system uses both freshwater and saltwater sources to create an optimal environment for all stages of the process from egg to smolt with high biosecurity standards.
"With the purchase of UNI-Aqua and DANAQ, AKVA Group has strengthened its position as the leading technology supplier to the aquaculture industry and formed a strong international team for the development of recirculation and land based systems, supported by the established local sales and service infrastructure," the company said in a statement.
This is the second AKVA group delivery of a recirculation hatchery in Chile with the first being a large state-of-the-art marine system for the production of Kingfish (Seriola Ialandi) in the north of Chile.

Should there be a nationally backed plan to develop the UK cod farming sector?
