Fishers urge action on "exorbitant" fuel price differences

Fuel cost differences must end, say fishers

AN online petition has been set up on the Number 10 Downing Street website in a bid to win action from Government to force oil companies to provide bunker fuel at the same cost, regardless of location, for the UK's commercial fishermen.

Fuel bills have become an increasing worry for the catching sector with some boats in Devon for example, unable to complete trips due to high fuel costs.

And the new petition has been set up, in the words of one of its backers, due to the "exorbitant differences in the cost of bunker fuel over the UK."

He added: "We know that if more than 150 people sign up it has to be referred up to the cabinet secretary's office so the more that sign the better.

"It is set to run for two months and over 30 people have signed so far. We know it is probably a hiding to nothing but we've got to try something."
