Industry leaders to meet in Oslo
Published:  28 February, 2008

Scottish Fisheries Minister Richard Lochhead is due to attend the event

OVER 400 delegates from 20 countries are expected to attend the third North Atlantic Seafood Forum, due to be held in Oslo next week.

With a number of major seafood company reorganisations and mergers taking place over 2007, several key business leaders will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face for the first time at the coming conference, says organiser Norway Trade Fairs.

Distinguished CEO speakers include Martin Glenn of Birds Eye, Deutsche See’s Peter Dill, Denis Savrasov of Atlantic Pacific and Icelandic’s Finnbogi Baldvinsson – as well as an almost complete line-up of Norway’s top seafood executives, who will join bankers in a Corporate Finance seminar.

Trade politics will be an important issue, and the international focus of the forum is underlined by increased participation from France, Ireland and Atlantic Canada in 2008. The UK will return to Oslo with its biggest-ever group of over 60 delegates, including Scotland’s Fisheries Minister Richard Lochhead who will join six of his international colleagues in Oslo – Fishery Minister John Browne of Ireland, Fishery Minister Tom Rideout from Newfoundland/Canada, Fishery Minister Einar K. Gudfinnson (Iceland), Fishery Minister Tórbjørn Jacobsen (Faroe Islands) and Fishery Minister Helga Pedersen of host country Norway.

The conference programme focuses on the whole value chain, from primary production, midstream buying and selling, logstics and downstream markets – plus trends in supply and demands and pricing.
