The event will be held in Aviemore |
A NEW aquaculture exhibition due to be held in the Scottish Highlands this May is a sell-out, according to the organisers.
Tain based company, Ascomber, has organised what it describes as "the UK’s most important aquaculture exhibition" - Aquaculture UK 2008 - and located it in Aviemore.
It says the move to Aviemore is in response to exhibitor demand for a cost effective show based in the centre of the fish farming industry.
"The move has been received with great enthusiasm by the industry such that Aquaculture UK 2008 is a sell-out," Ascomber said. "All the original stand space has been booked as has temporary extra capacity."
A conference is due to be held alongside the exhibition. Scottish Minister for the Environment, Michael Russell has been invited to open this.
The associated conference programme is not completely finalised but will have three themes - fish welfare, shellfish and feed and operating issues.
Speakers will come from companies in the industry, academia and NGOs. They will include speakers from Freedom Food, Compassion In World Farming, EWOS and the Wellfish Project. Equipment suppliers, a vet and a farmer will contribute their different perspectives to the welfare session, the organiser adds.
Exhibitors from over 10 countries are said to be attending and visitors from all over the world are expected.
Aquaculture UK 2008 is due to take place in the Macdonald Aviemore Highland Resort from May 21-22.
