FISHERMEN are voicing the same concerns, right round the English and Welsh coasts, Alan McCulla the chief executive of the Anglo-North Irish Fish Producers' Organisation has underlined.
Mr McCulla, who is in the second month of a six month tour of fishing ports across England and Wales, on behalf of the National Federation of Fishermen's Organisations (NFFO,) was in North Wales last week and has moved on to the North West of England.
He said, “No matter where we have been around the coast of England and Wales, the fishermen are voicing the same concerns. Concerns about the price of fuel, price of fish, lack of quota and increasingly the potential impact of the Marine Bill and all that might come with it. Fishermen understand that they have to remain united if they are to have any chance of securing a better deal in the future. It’s obvious there is a lot of talent and expertise in the industry, especially in Wales, that fishermen all around the UK could benefit from.”
He is in Yorkshire next week and he underlined he wanted to invite all local fishermen, both members of the NFFO, and non members, whether over 10 metres or under 10 metres, to meet him.
His next meeting is at Whitehaven Fish Hall at 10.30am on Thursday.
