This is an exciting and unique opportunity for an individual with the necessary dynamism, commitment and vision to succeed in an entirely new post coordinating and expanding the Marine Science and Technology programme at the NAFC Marine Centre.
As a member of the senior management team, responsible to the Director, you will be supported by section leaders in the areas of whitefish, policy, shellfish and aquaculture. You will be responsible for a team of 17 staff including research scientists and technicians, fishermen, accreditation staff and vocational trainers.
Applicants will need a passion for applied research over a broad range of interests with the ability and motivation to seek out new business opportunities and develop a significant commercial/research portfolio. Teaching in the Department is at the vocational level but the successful candidate will be expected to introduce and manage relevant and viable teaching programmes from SVQ through to post graduate study.
The successful candidate will be a marine professional with expertise in Fisheries and / or Aquaculture Science, with significant experience of high quality undergraduate / postgraduate teaching and significant industrial / research experience.
A good first degree (or equivalent) and PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant area is essential - a teaching qualification would be desirable.
This is a permanent position, subject to a six month probation period, to start on or before 1 May 2008.
